I find it disheartening that the new media in Jasper appears to hold the opinion that the people of Jasper do not need to know everything about its prospective mayor. Are you going to elect the next mayor of Jasper based on yard signs, door hangers, ads, and a couple of forums? I believe our citizens need to be educated on the candidate’s stand on all the issues in order to make an informed decision on whom they are voting.

The Herald
I spoke to John Rumbach, managing editor today. I asked if could write opinion piece for publishing, as long as the other the candidates for mayor of Jasper were given equal press. John indicated they could not do this because everyone candidate for any office would inundate The Herald with articles. I stated why he couldn’t limit this proposal to only the mayoral contest, since I believe it will be the most important local election in, perhaps, Jasper’s history.
WJTS
I also had spoken with Mick Birge, of WJTS, the local TV station. This was about a week ago. It appears WJTS has no interest in debates or news coverage until October.
